About the Contests

Our seasonal contests spark fresh ways of creating and sharing dance—from short films and web-first performances to photo essays and documentary storytelling. We spotlight work made for digital audiences, with a strong focus on originality, clarity of vision, and the power of movement to connect across space and culture.

Contest categories include:

  • Web-first Performances – Dance pieces created specifically for online viewing. From site-specific solos to screen-dance experiments, we celebrate digital-native choreography.
  • Dance Photography – Single images or cohesive series capturing movement, atmosphere, or the story of a dance moment.
  • Short Dance Documentaries – Real dance stories of dancers, communities, or creative processes told through a documentary lens.

Only Pro and Spotlight members may submit entries.

Winning entries receive thoughtful editorial coverage, prominent publication, and long-term visibility across the ADM Spotlight platform.

How do I get featured?

We open submissions once a month. Members fill out a simple form to pitch their work or story. We select a number of submissions, write the features, and share them with you once they’re published. If need, we might request further details or material.

What is “evergreen” showcases?

“Evergreen” means content that stays relevant and accessible over time—not tied to trends or dates. Our features and showcases are designed to give your work lasting visibility, so your profile, project, or piece continues to reach audiences long after it’s published.

What "timely" means when it comes to features?

“Timely” features highlight what’s unfolding in your practice right now—whether it's an upcoming performance, a workshop you’re leading, a festival you're organizing, a new residency, retreat, or tour. These pieces are anchored in the present moment, helping you amplify current opportunities, invite engagement, and share your journey while it's happening.

Can institutions become members?

ADM Spotlight is a space built for individual artists and small collectives. Institutions can’t join as members—but they’re welcome to support the platform as sponsors, partners, or collaborators. How do I know if I’m an institution or a small collective?

If you operate as a registered organization, have paid staff, regular funding, or produce programs at scale (like festivals, venues, or schools), you’re likely an institution.
If you’re an informal group of artists working together, self-funded or grassroots, you’re a small collective—and absolutely welcome to join as members. When in doubt, reach out and we’ll help you decide. Contact: info@adancemag.com

Is the membership open to dancers and dance professionals anywhere in the world?

Yes! Our membership is open globally to dancers, choreographers, thinkers, writers, photographers, filmmakers and all dance professionals—wherever you’re based. We celebrate diverse voices and practices from every corner of the world.

Can I upgrade from a Pro membership to the Spotlighter tier before my year is up?

Yes! If you're a Pro member and decide to upgrade to the Spotlighter tier, you can do so anytime. You'll only pay the difference—the system automatically applies a prorated credit for the remaining time on your current plan. Once upgraded, your new Spotlighter membership will start right away, and your billing cycle will reset to match your new tier.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. You’re free to end your membership whenever you choose. Your access will continue until the end of your current billing cycle, and you won’t be charged after that.

Do I keep the rights to my work?

Yes. You always keep the rights to your own work. By submitting to ADM Spotlight, you give us the right to publish your submission across our platforms, including in both web and print formats. We may also re-publish or reference your work in future editions, collections, or promotional material—with full credit to you. You can continue to share, publish, and present your work elsewhere at any time.

Can I feature someone else’s work?

Yes. If you're a writer, researcher, photographer, filmmaker, or creative professional, you’re welcome to submit a story that features another dancer or dance professional—with their consent. Please note: non-member artists featured by others may appear once on ADM Spotlight. To be considered for future features or contests, they’ll need to join the membership themselves.

Is there a community space for members to connect?

A dedicated space for members to exchange ideas, share work, and connect across borders is in the works. As an early member, you'll have early access and you'll help shape how this community space grows—your input and feedback is welcome.
